Austin, Texas

The Marathon Sports Division of USA Canoe/Kayak has announced plans for the 2010 World Marathon Canoe/Kayak Team Trials.  The World Marathon Team Trials are held annually to select elite marathon racers to represent the United States and USACK at various International Marathon racing competitions.  Athletes who qualify for the U.S. National Team are eligible to compete in the ICF Marathon World Championships Banyoles Spain, World Cup Series and other ICF events.

The 2010 USACK National World Marathon Trials will be hosted by the Texas Canoe and Kayak Racing Association along with Texas Rowing Center.  The Race will take place on Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake) at Fiesta Gardens Park.  Lady Bird Lake is a deep water lake with zero to minimal current.  Motorized boats are also prohibited on Lady Bird Lake and spectators are able to view the entire 4.3 kilometer course from the start line or follow along if they wish via the running trail along the lake shore.  The portage will be a beach in beach out on grass approximately 150m in length.

Trials competitors must hold a current USACK Membership and must verify membership at the time of registration on race day.  If selected for the U.S. Team, competitors also must meet citizenship and residency requirements as stipulated by the ICF and USACK. ICF and USACK rules can be found at http://www.canoeicf.com/ or http://www.usack.org/ .  World and National Team Selection Criteria will be published in the Marathon Team Selection Policy document available from the Marathon Racing Committee.  Team selection process will be announced as soon as document is received.
